South African Physical Therapist Michelle White says that working for Mercy Ships has been on her radar since graduation. Now a reoccurring volunteer, Michelle shares that, “on the ship we are able to offer high quality treatment to patients – it is probably the closest to textbook treatment that I have been able to offer in my career.”

“I’m passionate about improving the efficiencies of healthcare delivery. I’ve enjoyed being part of the Clubfoot Medical Capacity Building Program as well as treating individual patients,” says Michelle. “We are able to offer extremely excellent care while understanding the implications of the treatment to the patient, and being considerate around their whole beings.”

After we wrapped up our service in Senegal, I joined the maintenance team and helped pack up the ship – it really made me appreciate how much goes into setting things up to make a field service happen” says Michelle. “My next role, in the galley, gave me a real appreciation of the galley crew and all the planning that goes into our food appearing in the dining room!”

Thank you, Michelle, for your passion and commitment to delivering quality healthcare!
