Africa Mercy Annual Maintenance Period 2026

Technical Volunteers Needed – Short-Term Opportunity

The hospital ship Africa Mercy will be docked in Durban, South Africa, from March 7th to April 11th, 2026, for scheduled maintenance and repair work.

We’re seeking technically skilled volunteers to assist with various onboard projects. If you have experience in metalwork, carpentry, or mechanical fitting, and are comfortable using hand and power tools, we’d love to hear from you!

Volunteers will live aboard the ship during the maintenance period. Meals and accommodation are provided, but please note this is a volunteer position. You’ll be working alongside a passionate team of like-minded individuals, helping prepare the ship for its next outreach—bringing free surgical care to those in need.

Mercy Ships follows the 2,000-year-old model of Jesus, bringing hope and healing to those that normally would not have access to surgery. If you have a heart to serve and want to make a tangible difference, we invite you to join us!

We’re looking for volunteers who can commit to 2 to 5 weeks during this period.

To apply, please send your CV and a brief introductory letter to:
